Rival Tools is an independent review site for people who use tools for real — tradespeople, weekend mechanics, shop owners, and serious DIYers. We buy or borrow the gear, put it through actual work, and report what holds up and what doesn't.
What we cover
Power tools, electrical gear, garage and shop equipment, automotive lifting, workshop machines, outdoor and seasonal kit, off-grid power, workwear, and the digital tools that support a working shop. If it earns a place on the bench or in the truck, it's fair game.
Editorial policy
Rival Tools reviews are independent. We buy or borrow the gear we test, we do not accept payment for a favorable review, and every outbound buy link is clearly marked. Specs are pulled from manufacturer data and verified where we can; always confirm the current price and model number on the merchant site before ordering.
- Hands-on first. We don't review gear we haven't handled. Spec-sheet-only roundups get labeled as such.
- No paid scores. Brands can't buy a rating, a ranking, or a spot on a list. Ever.
- Clear affiliate links. Every outbound buy link is marked and uses
rel="sponsored nofollow". See our disclosure. - Prices are checked, not scraped. We list a price label manually and point you to the merchant for the live number, because tool prices move constantly.
- We update. When a newer model lands or our opinion changes, we revise the review and note it.
How we score
Our Rival score (out of 10) weighs real-world performance under load, build quality at the stress points, ergonomics over a full day, value for the money, and how well the tool fits into a wider platform of batteries and accessories. A high price doesn't lose points; a tool that fails to justify it does.
